Clinical Psychologist, MSc.
Welcome to my website. My name is Ioanna Rannou, I am a Clinical Psychologist (MSc.) and I provide psychotherapy services to adults, adolescents and children, as well as parental counselling. Here you can find information about the services provided, the therapeutic process and my professional journey.
Education & Professional Experience

I am a Clinical Psychologist (MSc.) providing individual psychotherapy services to adults, adolescents and children. I also hold parental counselling sessions, aimed at a better understanding of children's emotional needs, improved communication within the family system, better management of the conflicts that can arise in everyday life, and the strengthening of the parental role.
I am a graduate of the Department of Psychology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and I completed with distinction the three-year Postgraduate Programme in Clinical Psychology at the same University. I hold a licence to practise psychology (3954/2018). As part of my training, I completed clinical placements at the 2nd Psychiatric Clinic of the “Attikon” University General Hospital, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinic of the Sismanogleio General Hospital, and the Child Psychiatry Department of the Peristeri Mental Health Centre.
I have professional experience in Centres for Special Therapies, where I work therapeutically with children, adolescents and adults facing anxiety, mood disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, difficulties in interpersonal relationships and more. In this context, I conduct individual sessions, social skills development groups for children and adolescents, and parental counselling.
I have been trained in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychometric tests used in the diagnostic assessment of children, adolescents, and adults (WISC-III, WAIS-IV, TAT, CAT, Rorschach, House-Tree-Person, and others).
With continuous training and staying up to date with developments in my field as a core principle, I have attended contemporary educational programmes such as: the Postgraduate Seminar in Clinical Psychopathology “Panagiotis Oulis”, the Postgraduate Seminar of Clinical Skills in Psychopathology “Panagiotis Oulis”, the two-year training programme “Avaton”: Psychodynamic Clinic of Psychosomatic Illness, the Introductory Training in Supporting Adolescents with Symptoms of Gender Dysphoria or Gender Incongruence, and the professional training and development programme “Play Therapy: Theoretical Approaches, Practical Applications and Experiential Exercises”.
Throughout my professional and academic career, I have taken part in research work addressing different aspects of mental health — among them the role of attachment style and self-compassion in suicidality among people with major depressive disorder, the effects of the pandemic on mental health, well-being in later life, the psychological symptoms of young adult migrants and Greeks, and the psychological burden on carers of people with mental illness.
As part of my research activity, I have contributed to studies presented at scientific conferences, as well as to the writing of papers published in international scientific journals. I have also attended numerous scientific conferences and seminars covering a broad spectrum of mental health topics.
Since the beginning of my professional journey, I have been working under systematic supervision and personal psychotherapy, with a view to my professional development and the continuous improvement of my therapeutic practice.

Services
Adults
The therapeutic process takes place within a framework of safety, trust and acceptance, where the person in therapy can explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviour, as well as the way they relate to others. The therapeutic relationship can become a starting point for a deeper understanding of the self, for working through recurring patterns and emotional difficulties, and for finding new ways of managing whatever causes distress. The “vehicle” of the therapeutic relationship makes it easier to stay open to feeling, to find meaning in what preoccupies the person, and supports relief from psychological pain.
Psychotherapy with adults can address a wide range of difficulties and needs, such as:
- Anxiety and intense worry
- Difficulty managing emotions
- Depressive mood and loss of interest
- Panic attacks, agoraphobia, social phobia
- Difficulties in interpersonal relationships
- Low self-esteem
- Coping with loss and grief
- Significant life transitions
- Difficulty making decisions
- And more
Children and Adolescents
Psychotherapy with children and adolescents is governed by the same fundamental principles as the therapeutic process in general, but is adapted to the developmental stage and the particular needs of each child or adolescent. Within a facilitating environment, the child or adolescent is invited to feel, to think, to speak. Different ways of expressing and working through feelings and experiences are also used, such as play, drawing, storytelling and others. Through the therapeutic relationship, the child or adolescent can explore and express their feelings, narrate and work through their story, better understand what is troubling them, try out more functional ways of relating to other children, and strengthen their emotional and social skills.
Working together with the parents is an important part of the process, so that the needs of the child or adolescent are better understood, and so that communication and functioning within the family improve, along with adaptation to the environments the child or adolescent moves in.
Issues commonly worked through in psychotherapy with children and adolescents include:
- Anxiety and phobias
- Emotional difficulties
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Outbursts of anger
- School refusal
- Difficulties with peers or siblings
- Hyperactivity and/or inattention
- Parental divorce and significant changes or transitions
- Difficulties with self-esteem
- And more
Online Psychotherapy
Online psychotherapy is suitable in cases where meeting in person is not possible, due to geographical distance, difficulties in travelling, or other practical matters. Online sessions are governed by the same principles of ethics and professional conduct as the in-person therapeutic process, with particular emphasis on the protection of privacy and confidentiality.
Parental Counselling
Parental counselling is a collaborative process in which parents and the therapist work through possible difficulties concerning the relationship with the child, communication between family members, parenting practices, and the way family members connect with one another.
Space is given for a better understanding of the child’s needs, for reflection on the parental role and on expectations, and on the challenges the family is often called to face. Recognising and accepting the uniqueness of every family system is a cornerstone of the counselling process. The aim is to strengthen the parent-child relationship and to create the conditions that foster the sense that every member of the family is heard, accepted and understood.
